Why Maternity Photos Are Worth It

When you’re pregnant, it can be easy to focus only on the finish line. The appointments, the preparation, the sleepless nights before baby even arrives, and the physical changes can sometimes make pregnancy feel long and exhausting.

But somewhere in the middle of all of it, something incredible is happening.

Your body is growing and carrying an entire human being.

And while pregnancy may not always feel glamorous, maternity photos have a beautiful way of freezing this chapter in time before it becomes a blur of newborn feeds, tiny sleepers, and first milestones.

Capturing a Season That Passes Quickly

Pregnancy can feel endless while you’re in it, but once it’s over, many moms realize just how quickly it came and went.

One day, you’re counting kicks and folding tiny baby clothes. The next, your baby is in your arms and that version of you, the one growing them safely inside your body, already feels far away.

Maternity photos allow you to look back and remember not just what you looked like, but what this season of life felt like.

The anticipation.
The excitement.
The nerves.
The love that started long before birth.

My Personal Experience with Maternity Photos

During my first pregnancy, I did maternity photos with my husband, and looking back now, I’m so thankful I did. At the time, I saw them as a way to document our pregnancy, but now they’ve become so much more than that.

They captured a version of our lives before children. A season where it was just the two of us preparing for what was ahead.

I often look back at those photos to remind myself how different life once was and how much has changed since becoming parents. They hold memories of excitement, anticipation, and a quieter chapter of our relationship that I’m grateful we preserved.

With my second pregnancy, I honestly didn’t think I would do maternity photos again. I had already experienced them once, and between life, motherhood, and pregnancy the second time around, it didn’t feel as high on my priority list.

But then I had the opportunity to work with Rayne Drops Photography, and the experience completely changed my perspective again.

Going into the session, I had very little planned. I didn’t decide on outfits until the night before, and I honestly had no clear vision for what I wanted the photos to look like or what kind of “vibe” I was going for.

But the moment I walked into Kat’s studio, I was blown away.

From the fabrics and props to the backdrops and seating options, every detail felt intentional and beautiful. And almost immediately, I knew Kat would help me rediscover the reason for maternity photos during this pregnancy.

Kat helped me feel beautiful, natural, and comfortable in my changing body. More importantly, she reminded me just how incredible pregnancy truly is.

Finding a Photographer That Fits Your Style

One thing I’ve learned through both of my maternity photography experiences is that finding the right photographer truly matters.

Every photographer has a different style, editing approach, atmosphere, and way of making clients feel comfortable. Some sessions may feel more lifestyle and candid, while others are more editorial or studio-focused.

The most important thing is finding someone whose work and personality align with what you envision for your experience.

You want someone who makes you feel safe, confident, and comfortable in a season where many women can feel vulnerable in their changing bodies.

Along with Rayne Drops Photography, another wonderful photographer to consider is Ainsley Photography.  I’ve also had family photos done with Ainsley Photography, and one thing that stood out to me was how natural and comfortable the entire experience felt.

She kept the session light, fun, and relaxed, which is so important when young kids and families are involved. Nothing felt overly posed or forced. Instead, she has a way of making you feel like an old friend, someone genuinely invested in capturing your family in an authentic and meaningful way.

And I think that’s what makes a great photographer. Not just beautiful photos, but the ability to create an environment where you can truly be yourself.

Maternity Photos Are for You

Maternity photos don’t have to be about having the perfect outfits, the perfect body, or creating Pinterest-perfect images.

They should be for you.

Maybe they become a reminder of what your body was capable of. A way to look back on the strength of growing and nurturing life.

Or maybe they simply give you a chance to feel beautiful during a season where many women don’t always feel that way.

Pregnancy can be physically and emotionally overwhelming, and sometimes we become so focused on the discomfort or changes in our bodies that we forget to appreciate what our bodies are actually doing.

That’s what this experience reminded me of.

Kat created more than just beautiful photos. She created an environment that felt safe, supportive, and empowering. So many women feel vulnerable showing their growing bellies or the changes happening to their bodies during pregnancy, but she made everything feel comfortable and natural.

And that matters.

Because years from now, these photos become more than images.

They become reminders of your strength, your motherhood journey, and a season of life that passes far faster than it feels in the moment.
